“Roll To Me (Del Amitri cover)”i was going through a bunch of old recordings this week and came across what i believe is referred to as a “gem”. we did this some time in 2008, sitting in a little circle around a field recorder thing in my parents’ living room, and that’s my dad playing mandolin, mom playing violin, with shelby and i each playing a guitar and singing words. wish we had done more like this. i think it’s really special.

Couchella - A Music Festival Just For You, Internet
oh hay, this is happening right now. they’re calling it an internet music festival, but it’s probably more of a live youtube mixtape, at any rate they’re going to play a bunch of music that they like and also one of my songs at some point in the next couple hours. could be cool—watch it.

"Not a question. I'm a mixer of metaphors even if the metaphors in question aren't. What I wanted to say was that as a former struggling songwriter (now a retired musician and active psychiatrist) you are currently in one of those epic periods where almost everything you write is in some way worthwhile. milk it while it lasts. Ask Conor Oberst about that. It only lasts as long as you keep writing. If you stop the psell gets broken. Love your shit. My 19 year old daughter turned me on to it. Peace"
The Sarcastic Dharma Society Answered:well now i’m terrified. i actually think about this a lot. whenever i’m between songs or between projects, i usually feel creatively bankrupt until i randomly (hopefully, eventually) happen upon something else that i am capable of doing. like, if i manage to have an interesting thought, i’m usually pretty sure that it will be the last interesting thought i ever have—which is really scary, and often times debilitating. it all sort of ties in to this overwhelming fear of death that i have. if i wasn’t going to be so dead so soon i would be a lot less worried about it.
thank you so much for writing, and for listening, and thank you to your daughter! i think that is terribly good advice, both for myself and for just about everyone else trying to do anything at all, and yeah, conor oberst is a fantastic (sad) example of what you’re talking about.
i’m going to try really hard to milk this epic period for everything it’s worth—here’s hoping it’s not already too late.
all the love,

*update!*
sorry everyone! this was, in fact, a piece of april fool’s silliness. it’s not even really so much of a “joke” as it is a dream of a fantasy of the best thing i can imagine happening to me. also i spelled Denver wrong—sorry Denver. i don’t know david bazan at all, but i hold him in the highest of high regard, he’s a huge inspiration and i would be beyond excited if i some day got to play music with/for/in the same general vicinity as him. and the same goes for Mount Eerie, Advance Base, and Hop Along! the best music, guys. thank you all so much for being such good sports and for being excited by, rather than dismissive of, this totally amazing totally pretend tour. i promise to never again deceive you, and can’t wait to have real actual not fake news of a tour to share with you at some point in the future!all of the love,
